In late 2014 Melbourne Water finalised a five year digital strategy. A customer focused organisation, Melbourne Water was looking to take this to the next level by reinventing their business model for enhanced customer service, speed and efficiency.
The company engaged Business Aspect – which brought deep EA experience and business expertise – to lead the creation of its EA practice that would be accountable for driving key digital strategy enabling architecture functions including: Cloud Adoption, Mobility, Integration, Business Intelligence and Security, across the entire enterprise application landscape.
It was my job to visually tell this story in a case study for Business Aspect.
With one day in Melbourne (man, that's becoming a real trend for me) I visited the Melbourne Water offices to produce the video case study. My plan was simple: Conduct three interviews (one with each of the major players) and shoot b-roll of them all interacting in and around the office.
It can be visually challenging to demonstrate a digital strategy to an audience. Luckily, we had a roadmap - literally - in the form of all of the Enterprise Architecture blueprints and plans that adorned the office walls. As per normal, I shot all b-roll at half speed to give it that floaty/dramatic feeling and cut it together with soundbites from the interviews.
The hardest part was reducing the time on this piece as everything from the interviews was pure gold. When people know and believe in what they're talking about, it makes a real difference!
After a 2 days of editing and colour grading, I had a finished product.
