Client: alt.EVENTS

Location: Brisbane, Australia

Established in 2000 as a celebration of the LGBTQIA+ community and a way to raise vital funds for charities, Big Gay Day has evolved to one of Brisbane’s biggest street parties. The event now closes down an inner city street to drop in an epic main stage, Big Gay Day brings an incredible line up of local, national & international LGBTQIA+ entertainers to Brisbane.

I was booked in to capture LGBTQIA+ Event Photography at BGD with the alt EVENTS crew who had produced a showcase performance featuring artists from the finale of altIMATE SHOWDOWN (Season 2). I captured a mix of stills and video in a "real world" hybrid shooting test of the Lumix S5.

Hybrid shooting bodies like the Lumix S range really do have great benefits. For one, the photos were turned around and released within 15 minutes of the showcase completing so performers, the venue, and the alt Team had fodder to drive engagement, attendance, and awareness across social media.

Second, Big Gay Day coincided with the final draft of editing on Welcome to Queens' Land so I tested a range of internal and external codecs and captured footage to create a new introduction to the piece. It was a win/win/win for everybody.
